Tinubu, others absent at AC rally
Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos on Tuesday failed to grace the ongoing statewide rally of the Action Congress (AC) at the Oshodi-Oke vehicle loading station in the Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area.
Many other AC chieftains, including the state Chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale; the gubernatorial candidate, Mr Raji Fashola (SAN) and his running mate, Mr Adebisi Sosan, were present.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, was also there.
Tinubu had been the chief mobiliser at past rallies of the party since it kicked off its campaign in the state a fortnight ago.
He was present in Eti-Osa Local Government Area where he and other party chieftains were attacked on Monday by hoodlums.
Hundreds of policemen were deployed at Tuesday's rally venue to forestal a repeat of the attack on the party's chieftains and supporters.
It was also observed that youths formed the majority of the party supporters at the rally.
Fashola commended the party supporters for turning out en masse to listen to what he planned to do for the state, if elected, in spite of the attack by hoodlums in Eti Osa.
He promised to improve the welfare of teachers whom he described as important stakeholders in the educational sector.
''I am going to set up a teaching service corps and ensure its professionalism because of the teachers' strategic position in national development.
''I will elevate it above other professions because it is a noble profession,'' he said.
Fashola assured the teeming youth who attended the rally of job opportunities on coming to power and promised to continue the rehabilitation of roads and schools started by the Tinubu administration.
Mr Joe Igbokwe, the AC state Publicity Secretary, urged Ndigbo in the state to vote for Fashola and AC in the April elections.
''At present, Mr Ken Akabueze and myself are representing your interests in the government of Tinubu.
''Akabueze is the state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, while I am the General Manager in one of the state government agencies.
''This will continue with Fashola in power,''
Igbokwe, who spoke in Igbo and English languages, assured the people.
AC National Vice-Chairman Olatunji Hamzat recalled that the people of
Oshodi/Isolo had in the past always given the largest votes in the state and urged them to repeat the same feat in the coming elections.
''In the days of Action Group (AG), the Unity Party of Nigeria, the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance for Democracy, your votes were always the largest in the state and you must demonstrate the same under the Action Congress.''
The state Chairman, Mr Henry Ajomale, said: '' An Action Congress-led government in the state will provide all the infrastructure as done during the AG days.
''It will also ensure that the remaining N14 billion local government funds seized by the federal govermemt are released to the state.''
The party's senatorial election candidates were also presented to the supporters.
