The Nigerian Mission in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, says about 30 Nigerian pilgrims have so far lost their lives in the holy land.
The co-coordinator of the Mission, Alhaji Ibrahim Isiah, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday that majority of those who died in the holy land were old people.
Isiah said that five Nigerian women were also delivered of their babies safely while 10 others had miscarriages.
He said that about 30,000 pilgrims had so far been transported back home since the completion of the hajj exercise, adding that all pilgrims would be back home by Jan. 25.
Meanwhile, two Nigerian pilgrims from Edo state have been hit by cerebro-spinal meningitis in the holy land.
A medical officer in the Nigerian medical mission in Mecca, Dr. Akambi, who confirmed the outbreak of the disease, said that the situation was under control.
Akambi said that about 200 pilgrims were being attended to daily by the medical mission for various illnesses.
