Akwa spends N100m on players
Premier League new comers, Akwa United of Uyo have revealed that the club spent a total sum of one hundred million naira on the recruitment of twenty five players for their current campaign in the Nigerian top flight.
Patrick Ekong , Commissioner for Sports in Akwa Ibom state told Nigeriansportsonline.com that the sum was spent on the clearance of the players signed to beef up the team in their bid to win the domestic title in their debut campaign.
Ekong's revelation came following Nigeriansportsonline.com question on the value and importance of the N10m sponsorship largess handed to the twenty Premier League clubs by the Nigeria Football League (NFL).
"What is N10 million to a club like Akwa United?" Ekong fired.
"You should have asked me what our budget is for the season. Only three players alone cost us almost thirteen million naira.
"Goalkeeper Ambrose Vanzekin cost us N4.5 million, Chidozie Johnson cost us N4million while Ekene Ezenwa also cost N4million. We recruited twenty five players to beef up the team. And we spent a total of one hundred million naira to clear them. So what is NFL’s N10m?" he queried.
