Commercial drivers abandon vehicles to hawk fuel in Katsina
From MU’AWUYA B. IDRIS, Katsina

THE current fuel scarcity facing most states in the country has taken new dimension in Katsina, as commercial vehicle owners have have resorted to selling fuel at black markets in the state.
Daily Triumph checks revealed that operators of commercial vehicles in the state are now major suppliers of fuel to the black marketers. After they purchase the commodity at the NNPC mega station at government price they resell it to the black marketers at exorbitant price.
Further checks revealed that the commercial motorists no longer ply roads rather resort to joining queues at the mega station to get the commodity.
Investigation revealed that the sell of fuel by them at the black markets is attracting huge profit instead of them fuelling their vehicles to shuttle passengers to various destinations.
Our correspondent who visited the NNPC mega station learnt that the queue for the purchase of fuel has been dominated by commercial vehicles with minimal presence of private cars.
Some of the drivers of the commercial buses told Daily Triumph that they prefer to purchase fuel at the NNPC mega station at affordable price and later re-sell it to attract huge profit.
Meanwhile, a litre of petrol in Katsina is now selling at N130 at some filling stations.
It was learnt that the scarcity of fuel in the state had paralysed economic and business activities which forced commercial vehice operators to hike their fares.
