KNSG sets aside N70m for sports dev--Imam

KANO state government has set aside the sum of N70million as part of the state government’s efforts to provide conducive atmosphere for the promotion and development of sporting activities in the state.
The state commissioner of information, youth, sports and culture, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba stated this yesterday during a closing ceremony of the FIBA Africa Module 2 coaching clinic held at the Indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Sports Complex, Kofar Mata, Kano.
The commissioner who spoke through his permanent secretary, Alhaji Imam Ahmad Zubairu Galadanchi, said that state government has spent millions of naira in the area of sports in the last three years, adding that sports enjoy tremendous support by the Shekarau-led administration aimed at improving the sports industry not only in the state but the country at large.
He commended the Nigeria Baskeball Federation (NBBF) for chosing the state to host the coaching clinic which attracted participants across the country.
He called on the participants to use the coaching clinic towards maintaining the country’s highest record at continent and the whole world in general.
The commissioner then pledged that the state government is more than ready to contribute its quota towards the upliftment of the game.
However, he commended the participants for their cooperation and support throughout the duration of the oaching clinic in the state.
Speaking also, the state director of sports, Alhaji Ibrahim Abba said that the state government decided to host the coaching clinic not only to gain the importance attached to the clinic but to show that the state government is a partner for the overall development of the game in the country.
Alhaji Abba expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the participants throughout the coching clinic course and called on them to extend the skills and knowledge to the young ones.
About 33 coaching across the country took part in the one-week clinics course under the watchful eyes of Samuel Wanjoli from Kenya, a member of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Muktar Khali and the secretary of the NBBF Segun Akintola.
Dignitaries at the occasion included the permanet secretary, ministry of information, Alhaji Imam Ahmad Zubairu Galadanchi, the state director of sports, Alhaji Ibrahim Abba, the chairman, Kano Pillars Football Club, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida among others.
