NACRDB’s loan disbursement peaks
at N1.4bn in Kano --Bank chairman

NIGERIAN Agricultural Cooperative and Rural Development Bank (NACRDB),
has disbursed the sum of N1.38 billion as loan to the people of
Kano state as at November, 2006.
The chairman of the bank, Alhaji Iro Abubakar Dan Musa, revealed
this when he led the board and management of the bank on a
courtesy visit to the state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, at
Government House, yesterday.
Also, the bank has paid N135 million as its counterpart
contribution to the N50 billion set aside for disbursement to
farmers last year at appropriate time when the farmers needed
such assistance.
The bank’s chairman explained that they were for the bank’s
board meeting and to continue outstanding discussions with the
state government on the bank’s desire to partner with the
government on how best to improve agricultural activities in the
state.
Alhaji Dan Musa said: ‘’As a bank with responsibility to promote
the development of agriculture in Nigeria through funding, its
very necessary to partner with the state government in order to
achieve the goals of promoting agriculture as most people rely
on agriculture and needs funding.’’
Responding, the state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau,
expressed appreciation with the facilities that are available
for patronage at the bank and hoped that such facilities are
well exposed to people’s benefits.
Malam Shekarau explained that agriculture is taking top priority
position in the scheme of things in Kano state government’s
affairs.
He then assured that his government will make sure that all the
processes and mechanisms of such loan recovery are properly
checked and sanitized before the state government committed
itself to such an exercise.
The governor also pledged to be in partnership with the banking
to reach out to farmers with a view to educating and
enlightening them in order to perfect the area of the state
government’s contribution.
