No plan to impeach Obasanjo, Atiku --says Lawmaker
The National Assembly has no plan to impeach either President Olusegun Obasanjo or Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, says House of
Representatives member Farouk Muslim.
Muslim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi after undergoing INEC verification that the on-going misunderstanding between Obasanjo and Abubakar ``is purely a PDP affair''.
``NASS will not allow itself to be dragged into it.
``We have less than four months to go; why should we involve ourselves in their problem? Our duty is to ensure a smooth transition this year,'' the lawmaker added.
Muslim said any attempt to impeach any of the duo might bring political calamity to the nation.
He also expressed optimism that the ANPP would win the forthcoming general elections with former Head of State Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate.
He dismissed the insinuation that the elite were against Buhari's candidature, noting that only corrupt officials were afraid of his winning the presidential race.
Muslim expressed confidence in INEC's ability to conduct free and fair elections in April, and urged politicians to cooperate with the commission to enable it to discharge its assignment creditably.
