Plateau govt gives traders 2
weeks ultimatum
Plateau government has given traders who display their wares on
roadsides in the metropolis two weeks to relocate or face the
wrath of the law.
Following the destruction of Jos Main Market by fire in February
2002, some of the displaced traders had resorted to displaying
their wares on road sides.
A statement by the Market Relocation Committee in Jos gave the
affected traders two weeks from Jan. 14 to January 28, to
relocate to Rukuba Road Satellite Market.
It noted that there were enough stalls at the market to
accommodate the traders.
The statement said the relocation would facilitate the clearing
of the streets, in readiness for the reconstruction of the Jos
Main Market.
Several attempts to resettle the traders in the past had failed,
because they had complained of inadequate security and low
patronage at the new market.
They complained that the new market was located on the outskirts
of the city, unlike the Jos Main Market, located in the city
centre.
