...Declares Jan 19 work free day
to mark Islamic year
AS the Hijra calendar of 1427 AH bids farewell to the Muslim
Ummah throughout the globe, Kano state government has declared
Friday, the First Day of Muharram 1428, equivalent to January
19, 2007 as work-free-day for all workers throughout the state.
According to a press release signed by Aminu Yusuf Kura, public
relations officer in the office of the Head of Civil Service,
the break is to allow workers and other Muslims to celebrate the
commencement of the new Islamic year.
The statement indicated that the development was in line with
the state government’s adoption of the First Day of Muharram
each year, as work-free-day. The observance of the break was
started in 2004.
It therefore, convey the prayers of the state governor, Malam
Ibrahim Shekarau, for a prosperous new Islamic year for all the
Muslims, and further solicited prayers from all and sundry for
the continued peace and progress of the state and the nation.
