Gov Shekarau tasks NDLEA on youths sensitization

KANO state government has advised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to double efforts in sensitizing the youth especially in the present political arena.
The state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau gave the challenge when he received the chairman, National Reform Committee on NDLEA, Justice Gilbert A. Obayan (rtd) on a courtesy call at the Government House, Kano, Tuesday.
Malam Shekarau said the measure become necessary in view of politicians are engaged in luring youths in thuggery.
According to him, youths need to be sensitized, enlightened and educated in order to avert the big-wig politicians from engaging them in unwholesome activities.
Said he: ‘’If you cannot afford to monitor the conduct of your own child, there is every tendency for politicians as leaders luring them into negatite attitudes by giving them drugs or money to buy drugs’’.
He assured the committee that his government is ready and has the political will to implement the committee’s recommendations.
The governor then advised all sectors of development to be counselling both the youths and their parents during their schooling, saying that such places are the battlefield where we can fight some of these menace.
Earlier, the chairman of the committee, Justice Gilbert A. Obayan had said that they were in the state for self introduction and to meet with stakeholders on the NDLEA reform.
He also expressed appreciation to the state government for its assistance to the command in terms of logistics and staff accommodation.
