KNSG accepts 2006 census figure
Stories by UMAR DANLADI ADO

KANO state government has accepted the 9,383,682 figures released by the National Population Commission (NPC) as the most populated state in Nigeria in the 2006 census exercise.
This was contained in a press release signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations to the governor, Malam Sule Ya’u Sule, a copy of which was made available to Daily Triumph.
The statement further stated that the census figures actually went beyond the expectations of the people of the state as there was never any iota of doubt that Kano is the most populated Nigerian state.
Similarly, the state government is going to lodge its complaints on areas that were not covered during the exercise, adding that: ‘’The state census committee is now compiling the list of areas that were left out for possible presentation to the NPC.’’
Malam Shekarau explained that rejecting the census figures in its entirety would not help matters as there must always be a census figure to work with.
He then described the recent census as painstaking and complex enumeration exercise, which took advantage of the latest technological and demographic innovations and that it was marked by transparency, sincerity and patriotism.
The governor then commended the NPC for a job well done and for attempting to get an authentic and reliable census figure for the country, and observed that the exercise was in the past dogged by needless controversy.
