LASG will not pay WAEC fees for students --- Commissioner
The Lagos state commissioner for education, Dr Leke Pitan, has said that the government will not pay the WAEC fees of students who do not register within the next two weeks.
Pitan made the assertion today at a forum with principals and WAEC officials on preparations for the 2007 WAEC registration at the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Maryland, Ikeja.
He urged students to stay in school in the next few weeks to get registered through the Lagos State Government Education Management System (LASGEMS) Digital Imaging and Thumb Printing.
According to him, it is imperative that all Senior Secondary Students (SSS III) in the state, who are not registered through LASGEMS within the next two weeks will forfeit the opportunity of having their WAEC fees paid for by the state government.
The commissioner also said that any student, who is sick or unable to come to school should send his or her parents or guardian to inform the school authorities.
Pitan enjoined school principals to continue to work and make sure all students data were meticulously filled to avoid unnecessary mistakes in the computing and compiling of students' results.
Lagos state government initiated the LASGEMS project to create a computerised unique and life time Student Personal Identification Number (SPIN) for pupils and students in both public and private schools.
