Okocha, Kanu weep for Omeruah
Former Super Eagles captain, Austin Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu were
in tears as the remains of late NFA chairman Air Commodore
Sampson Emeka Omeruah arrived the National Stadium, Lagos,
Wednesday, for a one and half hours lying-in-state ceremony,
reports Nigeriansportsonline.com.
It was an all emotion period as the one-time sports minister’s
lifelessly lays in the customised casket as sports fans,
dignitaries paid their last respect to the man whose tenure saw
Nigeria win her first U-16 FIFA JVC World Cup as well as debut
at the World Cup finals in USA ‘ 94.
Sports minister, Bala Ka’oje led the government’s delegation
with Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi standing in for the Sani Lulu-led
board of the NFA.
Former NFA acting Secretary General, Fanny Amun was also on hand
to pay his last respect to the NFA boss in 1993 when he (Amun)
led the Golden Eaglets to conquer the world in Japan in 1993.
Dr. Amos Adamu, Director of Sports Development in the (now)
scrapped ministry of sports and social development was also in
attendance.
Nigeriansportsonline.com reports that other dignitaries such as
Iain Nelson, Bisi Lawrence and Larry Glover were also at the
ceremony.
He will be buried on Friday at his home town, Iboro, in Ikwuano
Umuahia.
