2007 polls: Iwu unveils innovations on ballot paper

THE chairman of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu, has said that there will be no going back on the conduct of 2007 general elections, even as the ballot paper varies from one constituency to another.
Prof. Iwu who made the revelation during the 4th Trust Annual Dialogue organized by Media Trust Limited yesterday, said that ballot paper would carry the portrait of each candidate and it would differ from one state to another.

Shekarau tasks MSSN on founders’ legacies
KANO state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has enjoined the state leadership of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) to sustain the good precedents set by the founding fathers of the society.
Governor Shekarau made the call while receiving a delegation of the local organizing committee of the society’s 64th Islamic Vacation Course held recently in the state.
He said the founding members of the society particularly, Dr. Abdullateef Adegbite, the present secretary general of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, had made invaluable contributions which should be emulated to keep the society afloat.

The Senate yesterday declined to screen Justice Idris Kutigi for the post of the Chief Justice of Nigeria following the failure of the presidency to present his Code of Conduct form and security report.
Kutigi has been penciled down as the new chief justice of the country following the retirement of Justice Alfa Belgore last Wednesday.
In declining to screen the justice, the senators expressed its augst with the presidency for inferring that they could do the job without the documents.
