Kano govt hails IUCN for
uplifting citizen’s life
KANO state government has commended the World Conservation Union
(IUCN) Komadugu Yobe Basins Authority for identifying itself
with the inhabitants of the basin areas for the upliftment of
their living standards, for socio-economic posterity.
The Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji
Rabi’u Zakariya’u, made the commendation yesterday while
receiving the technical team of the world body at his office.
Alhaji Zakariya’u then expressed willingness of the state
government to support the noble initiative of the technical team
for the actualization of the draft World Water Charter for the
six states of the Komadugu Yobe Basin Area, consisting of
Bauchi, Borno, Plateau, Jigawa, Yobe and Kano states. He,
however, emphasized the need to explore other avenues for the
consolidation of this effort.
The Ag. SSG, who extolled the efforts of the technical team in
charting an acceptable and legal way, prayed for successful
execution of their mission.
Earlier, the leader of the technical team, Malam Hallai Garba,
had said that the team was on advocacy visit to Kano and other
states, within the Komadugu Yobe Basins Area and working on the
draft International Water Charter for the six states.
Malam Garba said that the first round of consultative meeting
was held in almost all the six states of the zone, stressing
that a consolidation meeting was held Wednesday in Kano for the
participating states working for the draft charter.
The team leader also said that a validation workshop will be
held in Jos, Plateau state where representatives from federal
government and all the six participating states will validate
the charter which will be assented and signed by their
respective state governors.
He then expressed appreciation of the team to the state
government for the hospitality accorded them during their stay
in Kano. |
