At Islamic calendar launch: KNSG introduces new official stamp
KANO state government has launched its new official rubber stamp bearing both Islamic and Gregorian calendar dates.
At the launch, which took place yesterday as part of activities marking the Islamic New Year, 1428AH at Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Complex in the state capital, the state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau said henceforth, the stamps would be used in every transaction of the government.
Governor Shekarau, who said the stamps would be distributed free to all public offices in the state and local governments, directed civil servants to disregard any official communication not bearing the new stamp.
He urged private organizations to emulate the government saying those wishing to comply should contact the state Head of Civil Service, explaining that the initiative is part of the government’s drive to ensure Shari’a compliance.
The governor who also launched the state Islamic calendar enjoined the federal government to declare the first day of the Islamic year a public holiday in view of its significance to the millions of Muslims in the country.
Malam Shekarau restated resolve to sustain efforts of Shari’a implementation promising to introduce a special grant for Islamiyya schools as well as ration of working materials to strengthen their capacity.
He added that 28 new buses and two new saloon cars have been purchased for distribution to Islamic Da’awah groups and appealed for the continued support of the people to ensure Shari’a compliance.
On his part, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero enjoined the people to do good, repent over their misdeeds and sustain usage of the Islamic calendar in their endeavours.
While praying for hitch-free conduct of the forthcoming general elections, Alhaji Bayero urged families in the state to take advantage of the upcoming immunization against childhood killer diseases in the interest of a healthier society.
The Commissioner I, state Shari’a Commission, Ustaz Umar Sani Fagge dwelt on the successes and impediments to Shari’a implementation in the state saying a lot has been achieved in proposal of laws and guidelines on Shari’a, settling disputes, Islamic propagation and publication of books among others.
