Jang, still PDP’s flag bearer in
Plateau---Organisation
FROM: CHRISTIANA GOKYO JOS
The campaign organization of Plateau state PDP candidate, Air
commodor Jonah David Jang has said that, Jang won the primaries
of 13th December, 2006 with a simple majority of the total votes
cast.
The director of administration Jang Campaign Organization, Hansi
Suleiman was reacting to allegations against Jang’s, during a
press conference organized last week by some coalition students,
claiming that the PDP primaries did not produce a clear winner.
He said, both Yakubu who led the press and his paymasters were
either ignorant of the true state of affairs in the PDP or were
deliberately being mischievous.
According to him,the truth of the matter is that, before the
13th December, 2006 primaries, the national secretariat of the
party decided that any aspirant that scored a simple majority of
votes cast would be declared winner. It was subject to the
decision that the national secretariat of the PDP announced Jang
as the winner.
He further challenged anyone, who subscribed this warped line of
thinking to come out and show the world the indices that
confirmed this.
According to him , they would not allow anybody to steal their
mandate again, as it was done in 1999 and 2003.
Also speaking on the running mate of Jang ,Mrs. Pauline Tallen
said Jang did not consult any Stakeholder over the choice,
saying it was not true.
He said Jang was given a directive by INEC’s national
secretariat to present his running- mate within twenty four
hours, due to the time constraint, he consulted governor Michael
Botmang, deputy senate president Ibrahim Mantu and the former
chairman of PDP, who is now the deputy governor, Chief Jethro
Akun, among others over the decision of Mrs. Tallen ticket,
which was approved by all.
He said, the choice of Mrs. Tallen has brought unprecedented
goodwill and support to the PDP, not only on the plateau state,
but the country as a whole, especially the womenfolk, who
constitute the bulk of the voting population.
According to him,on Thursday. 11th Jan. 2007, Senator Mantu
hatched a plot to undermine Jang’s candidature by summoning five
PDP Exco members from each of the 17 LGAs of the state to his
residence in Abuja, secretretariat to reject Jang’s candidature,
and to call for a dropping of both Jang and mrs Tallen to be
replaced by neutral candidate, preferably Botmang or Jimmy Cheto.
According to him he was suprised that, the exco members, who
declared that, they were 100 percent in support of Jang/Tallen
ticket ,as this was not enough for him, he invited PDP national
and state assembly candidates from plateau for the same kind of
meeting, which also hit the rocks.
Mr. Suleiman, who also stated that, all the PDP gubernatorial
and national aspirants duly sworn- in to an affidavit declaring
that, they would strictly abide by whatever decisions the
national body of the party would take regarding the outcome of
the primaries, but “ we are surprised,as to why those that were
defeated are now singing a new song and disregarding the oath
they took”.
According to him, Jang has continuously been appealing to the
other aspirants to join hands with him to ensure the electoral
victory of PDP at both the state and national levels. |
