KNSG to sponsor late Gen. Murtala intl Cup
INDICATIONS that Kano state sports loving governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has decided to honour one of Nigeria great leaders and son of Kano state late General Murtala Ramat Muhammad, emerged in the week as there are plans for the constitution of a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) by the government, preparatory to the kick off of Ramat International U-17 soccer competition on February 13, this year.
Dairly Triumph Sports investigation revealed that sporting authorities in the state are making adequate arrangements towards organizing a successful tournament in honour of the great leader who was killed in coup plot in 1976.
It was learnt that the state decision to honour the late hero, is not unconnected with the determination of the state governor to immortalize great Kano indigenes that have placed the state on the honour list locally and internationally.
To make the event a success, the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has forwarded a budget proposal of N8 million to the state governor for approval.
According to the organizers, apart from youth clubs from the 36 states of the federation, six other countries are expected to participate in the two weeks tournament, the amount needed will cover accommodation, transportation, feeding and other logistics for players and officials of the participating team throughout the championship.
