Voter registration can check rigging-- Nwuruku
Chief Lawrence Nwuruku, former minister of state for Industries, says massive registration in the on-going review of voters registration was one of the measures Nigerians could check rigging during this year general elections.
Nwuruku stated this today in Abakaliki during a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) .
The former minister said the level of apathy shown by Nigerians in getting the voter cards was a big mistake capable of allowing very few to decide the destiny of many during the elections.
He observed with delight positive improvement made by INEC in the provision of more Direct Data Capture Machine before the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Nwuruku, who has equally served as INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, noted that massive participation during voter registration as well as voting for a candidate of one's choice were crucial steps of checking electoral fraud.
On the emergence of Chief Martin Elechi as the gubernatorial candidate of PDP in Ebonyi state for the April 2007 polls, Nwuruku said he had taken the outcome of the primaries in good faith.
He explained that although he aspired to govern the state under the same platform but failed, the choice of Elechi was the will of God which he said should be supported by every peace-loving PDP member in the area.
`I have taken the governorship primaries result in good faith, and at the same time, wish to advise my supporters to take it as so.
``The peace and progress of Ebonyi state are paramount to me and I feel it should as well be to all my supporters at this material time," he said.
