AC gubernatorial candidates to
tackle Niger Delta crisis
AC gubernatorial candidates for South-South states have formed a
coalition through an action plan aimed at liberating the people
of Niger Delta from backwardness.
The candidates are Prince Tonye Princewill AC-Rivers; James
Iniama AC-Akwa Ibom; Denzil Kentebe AC-Bayelsa; Emmanuel Ibeshi
AC-Cross River; Peter Okocha AC-Delta and Adams Oshiomhole
AC-Edo.
The candidates said at a joint news conference in Abuja weekend
that they would soon unveil a collective blueprint for the
people of Niger Delta region.
Contributing, Princewill said they had resolved to form the
coalition to network an approach for solving the peculiar
problems of Niger Delta people.
He explained that the candidates were united to permanently
solve the problems of restiveness of the youth in the region
through provision of employment for the militant youth of the
area.
In his remark, Kentebe of Bayelsa decried the lack of serious
development in the Niger Delta region in the past seven and half
years, due to ``bad leadership''.
He promised that the AC candidates would use their exposure
locally and globally to attract foreign investment into the area
by making the environment investment friendly.
Also speaking, Iniama of Akwa Ibom said AC governorship
candidates in the area would reposition the economic base of the
area by charting a new course.
The Cross River candidate, Ibeshi added that as a member of the
Niger Delta family, members of the coalition knew the needs of
their people as against prescription that was ``forced down
their throat'' by the PDP-led government.
He said the network would create a dialogue forum where the
people would have unhindered access to their elected leader and
jointly discuss the problems and solutions.
The out-going NLC President, Adams Oshiomhole, urged the people
of Niger Delta to be vigilant as they were ready to provide good
leadership for them.
Peter Okocha AC-Delta, however, said that the emergence of the
candidates in the zone would mark a positive turn around for the
people of the area.
