FG drums support for 2014
Commonwealth Games bid
The federal government has called on the Association of National
Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) to help mobilise support
from countries for the success of Nigeria's 2014 Commonwealth
Games bid.
Bala Ka'oje Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC)
made the call at the opening of the executive committee meeting
of the association in Abuja.
``I want to inform you that our great President Olusegun
Obasanjo has urged me to convey this appeal to you to help
mobilise support from countries in your fold towards the
actualisation of the 2014 Commonwealth Games bid,'' Ka'oje said.
He commended ANOCA's leadership for the smooth take off of the
association' s secretariat in Abuja following its relocation
from Yaounde in Cameroun.
``The President was quite impressed with your efforts in the
prompt relocation to Abuja and has urged me to inform you of the
country's readiness to assist you in any way possible,'' Ka'oje
said.
In his remarks, Habu Gumel President of the Nigeria Olympic
Committee (NOC) thanked the federal government for its
assistance in the relocation of the ANOCA secretariat in
Nigeria.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that ANOCA secretariat
was relocated to Abuja in November last year after the country
won the bid to host it.
The secretariat was originally located in Cameroun.
