Pension Trust Fund underway in
Kano…as Shekarau swears-in new SAs, perm secs

A NEW body responsible for handling pension affairs in Kano,
‘’Pension Trust Fund” is under way, the state governor, Malam
Ibrahim Shekarau, has disclosed.
The governor dropped the hint during the swearing-in of four new
special advisers and five permanent secretaries at Government
House yesterday.
According to the governor, a law has been passed by the state
House of Assembly that provides ground for merging of the state
pension board as well as local government staff pension board
into one commission.

disburses N20m to cooperative societies

THE sum of N20 million has been disbursed to about 300
cooperative societies in Kano state under the government’s
Artisan Cooperative Loan Scheme.
Presenting the cheques during the third phase of the scheme to
the beneficiaries at Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall yesterday,
the state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau explained that the
move was part of the state government’s poverty alleviation
drive.
Governor Shekarau stated that N40 million was distributed under
the first and second phase of the programme explaining that
about 10,000 people from 232 cooperative groups across the state
have benefitted.

Fire
razes Funtua market

MU’AWIYA BALA IDRIS, Katsina
FIRE has razed down at about 160 shops at Funtua market in
Katsina state.
The inferno which started it about 10:30 pm on Saturday lasted
for about four hours due to lack of accessible roads for the
fire service men to control it.
Daily Triumph checks revealed that as a result of the incidence,
hundreds of traders have lost properties running into millions
of Naira..

FG drums support for 2014 Commonwealth
Games bid
The federal government has called on the Association of National
Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) to help mobilise support
from countries for the success of Nigeria's 2014 Commonwealth
Games bid.
Bala Ka'oje Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC)
made the call at the opening of the executive committee meeting
of the association in Abuja.
``I want to inform you that our great President Olusegun
Obasanjo has urged me to convey this appeal to you to help
mobilise support from countries in your fold towards the
actualisation of the 2014 Commonwealth Games bid,'' Ka'oje said.
