Kebbi govt donates land to former CJN
The Kebbi State government at the weeked donated a plot of land in Birnin Kebbi to the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Alfa Belgore.
The land, which is situated in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), is to enable him build a befitting house in the state capital.
The state governor, Alhaji Adamu Ailero, presented Belgore with the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) at a reception organised in his honour in Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking after receiving the C of O, the former CJN thanked the government and people of the state for the gesture.
He said that since his grand parents left Bunza, Kebbi State, about 170 years ago on Islamic Evangelism and finally settled in Ilorin, Kwara State, his family had not lost contact with their roots.
He assured the people of the state that the land would be developed and put to use for the purpose it was intended.
Commenting on inter ethnic relationship among Nigerians, Belgore blamed the elite for encouraging tribal and religious politics in the country.
He also frowned at the increasing cases of impeachment of political office holders by some state legislatures.
He said the sad development had the capacity to abort the entrenchment of the nation’s democratic system and must therefore, be promptly checked.
Earlier, the governor had said that the reception was organised by the state government to rejoice with Belgore for a successfull tenure.
He said the state was proud of his performance, noting that he had succeeded in transforming the judiciary within his short tenure.
The reception was attended by the Emirs of Gwandu and Argungu, Alhaji Iliyasu Bashir and Alhaji Sama’ila Mera respectively.
Others were members of State and National Assemblies as well as delegations from Kwara and Niger States.
