Obasanjo pledges to tackle child,
maternal mortality

KABIRU YUSUF, Abuja
WORRIED over the increasing cases of child and maternal
mortality in the country, President Olusegun Obasanjo has said
that government will pay more attention to raising the country’s
life expectancy.
The president was speaking to a delegation of the Better Life
Programme, led by Mrs. Maryam Babangida, when they presented
translations of the Millennium Development Goals’ Document at
State House, Tuesday.
“We are going to have a forum to look at infant and maternal
mortality, particularly child nutrition, as well as the
achievements of the implementation of the Millennium Development
Goals”, he stated.

Shekarau attends INEC verification: Kano ANPP delivers on
promises, says Hotoro

KANO state ANPP has delivered its promises to the teaming
masses, the state ANPP chairman, Hon. Sani Hashim Hotoro has
asserted.
He spoke in Abuja when he accompanied the state governor, Malam
Ibrahim Shekarau, who is also the party’s flagbearer to INEC
office for the Commisions verification exercise last Saturday.
Earlier, before the screening, INEC chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu
had said that the commission was given the mandate and authority
to screen contestants in line with section 131 and 137 of the
constitution.

Following INEC’s claim that it had not received Monday’s Court
injunction against on-going verification of candidates, and
being fully aware of a plot to use the exercise as ploy to stop
his presidential ambition, Vice President Atiku Abubakar who is
the presidential candidate of the Action Congress (AC) yesterday
submitted himself before INEC officials in Abuja to scrutinize
his documents.
Atiku, who arrived at the INEC headquarters at about 11am and
was cheered by a huge crowd of INEC staff and visitors, was
received by INEC chairman Maurice Iwu and his commissioners. In

Vogts to earn N6.5m monthly
New Super Eagles Manager, German born Berti Vogts, is to earn
the sum of fifty thousand United States dollars ($50, 000) or
N6.5m as monthly salary in the course of his four-year contract
with the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, reports
Nigeriasportsonline.
This was revealed to Nigeriansportsonline Tuesday after the NFA
board meeting in Abuja by NFA chairman, Alhaji Sani Lulu
Abdulahi.
“Berti Vogts is to be on contract with NFA for a period of four
years as Super Eagles Manager”, Lulu told Nigeriansportsonline
after the meeting.
“Within the period, Vogts will be paid the sum of fifty thousand
United States dollars ($50,000) or N6.5m as monthly salary.”
