Yar’adua, Jonathan storm INEC
office for verification exercise
The PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Umaru Yar’adua, and his
running mate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, today stormed the INEC
headquarters in Abuja for the verification of their credentials.
The candidates, who came to the INEC office this afternoon in
company of party chieftains, received a tumultuous welcome by
party supporters.
Yar’adua and Jonathan were ushered into the INEC conference
hall, accompanied by the PDP National Chairman, Dr Ahmadu Ali,
and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George.
Others who came with the candidates Gov. Abdullahi Adamu of
Nasarawa State, PDP National Secretary Ojo Maduekwe and Mr John
Odey, the PDP National Publicity Secretary.
Also in attendance were PDP governorship candidates: Sen.
Musiliu Obanikoro (Lagos), Nadada Umar (Bauchi), Gabriel Suswan
(Benue), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Andy Uba (Anambra) and
Sen. Osarhien Osunbor (Edo), among other party faithful.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presence of
Yar’adua and his running mate appeared dramatic, as his security
team virtually took over from INEC security personnel and joined
in screening the people moving in and out of the INEC
headquarters.
At the end of the verification exercise which lasted for about
four minutes, Yar’adua said that the INEC verification team only
sighted the original copies of his credentials.
The verification team also requested for the candidates’ party
membership cards, voter cards, birth certificates, among other
credentials.
