ETF commits N106m to classroom construction in Jigawa

EDUCATIONAL Trust Fund (ETF), has spent whopping sum of over N106 million in the construction of classrooms as well as provision of furniture to educational institutions in Jigawa state in 2006.
Speaking to Daily Triumph in Dutse, Tuesday on the achievements recorded since his inception to date, the executive chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Babangida Hussain said the furniture were disbursed to various schools across the state to enable pupils and students of the benefiting schools, have a conductive atmosphere of learning, adding that the gesture had complemented the existing efforts of the present administration in boosting the standard of education.
Alhaji Hussaini explained that the board has spent 145 million Naira last to construct 294 units of classroom blocks in primary and junior secondary schools across the state, pointing out that hundreds of classrooms were also rehabilitated as directed by the state government.
The SUBEB boss added that teaching aids science equipment worth N174 million was purchased and distributed to the school in 2006, while the board had equally recruited qualified teachers to teach core subjects in its various schools.
According to him, N22 million was expended by UNICEF in 2006 in the constructions of toilets in ten schools of each of the slated six local government areas in the state under its water and sanitation programme, maintaining that the toiltets will be managed by the schools’ authority.
He explained that in the year 2006, 6,104 teaching and none-teaching staff were prompted, while 6,419 teachers were trained by the board in collaboration with NTI, and UNICEF. Out of the number, NTI trained 1,000, UNICEF 309, and the board trained 3,010.
