I inherited empty treasury
--NFA Boss
NFA chairman Sani Lulu Abdullahi has disclosed to KICK OFF that
he met no money in the treasury of the association when he
assumed office in August.
In a chat with KICK OFF at the association's Secretariat in
Abuja on Tuesday, Lulu said, "I must tell you that from the
report I got, I met almost nothing and I met an NFA that was
indebted, that was owing organizations, hoteliers, traveling
agencies and so many people including NFA staff close to almost
300 million naira," the former FCT Football Association boss
revealed.
He said that the association under his leadership was able to
pay a large part of the money with only 50 million naira debt
left to be settled.
"With the support of my Executive Board members and also like I
promised Nigerians, we were able to address this situation.
Luckily when I got the Globacom money, I said we have to use it
to settle debts.
"We got about 168 million naira from Glo and we used the money
to settle almost the 300 million naira debt. What we adopted was
to call all these various individuals we owed for renegotiation
and we were all on our knees begging them to accept what we had
to pay them.
"A hotelier like D' Rovans in Ibadan was owed about 14 million
naira and he had to finally accept eight million naira. He
happily accepted it because he saw the genuineness and sincerity
of purpose in the new board.
"I want to say the Nigerians out there are now happy with us
because we have settled their debts and they are now going to be
good partners to this board," the NFA boss stated.
