Lawmakers embarkonemirate tour
From Ismaila Muhamma, Dutse
SPEAKER of the Jigawa state House of Assembly, Alhaji Mustapha
Makama Kiyawa and other legislative members of the state, who
defected to PDP have embarked on emirate tour of consultation
with traditional rulers and stakeholders, seeking for the Divine
intervention to see them through, Daily Triumph reliably
gathered.
It could be recalled that, last week the Jigawa state chapter of
All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), through one of its House of
Representatives members, Hon. Nasiru Garba Dantiye filed a case
before a Federal High Court against the lawmakers for
cross-carpeting from the party they were elected the ANPP, to
the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) without due process.
The plaintiffs, who appealed to the court to declare the
lawmakers’ seats vacant, urged the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct bye-election, because the
law makers have violated the 1999 constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria.
Investigation conducted by Daily Triumph in Dutse revealed that,
immediately after the decision by the party against the law
makers, the House quickly held an emergency sitting, with a view
to finding solution to the court order, which according to one
of the Assembly staff who spoke on condition of anonymity, may
put them to shame, as most of them defected to protect the
interest of Governor Saminu Turaki.
It was alleged that, despite the fact that, the House is
bankrupt and other outstanding debt, running into millions, the
House has to contact one of its bank for a loan to enable it
settle the matter out of court, with a view to avoiding
embarrassment, as most of the electorate are fed up with the
lawmakers, but the bank refused to offer them the loan.
The lawmakers, according to further investigations have no other
option than to embark on emirates tour, seeking for all
stakeholders and traditional rulers’ intervention to stop the
court from what they described as public disgrace.
It was however learnt that, most of the traditional rulers and
stake holders visited by the lawmakers have not responded well
to their request, because even the traditional rulers are aware
of the unguided and unruly manner the lawmakers treated the
electorate in the last eight years, and as such, it will be a
shame for them to intervene in the mater.
Further investigation revealed that, with the recent
development, the lawmakers would hold another meeting over the
weekend to evolve ways of channelling their complaints for
urgent intervention, as Governor Turaki’s where about is unknown
to them.
“The lawmakers may visit President Obasanjo and PDP national
chairman, Senator Ahmadu Ali and other party stalwarts in Abuja
for their intervention,” the source added.
The affected members, whom the party ANPP in Jigawa state want
the court to declare their seats vacant and INEC to conduct a
bye-elections, are the speaker and 30 members of the state
Assembly, one serving Senator and some members of the House of
Representatives and the National Assembly.
