PLSG rehabilitates roads with N3.2bn

The sum of N3.2 billion is expected to be spent on the rehabilitation of major streets within the Jos township road, with N1.426,352,594.63 of the amount going into the phase one of the project.
Commissioner for works, Engr. Danjuma Dadu disclosed this at the flagging-off of rehabilitation and construction of major streets within the Jos and Bukuru metropolis yesterday.
According to him, the major streets include Polo Roundabout to Farin Gada, Bauchi Road from Terminus Roundabout, Farin Gada Junction among others.
He said the government’s decision to intervene on the road is a deliberate effort to ease traffic problem for its citizens as well as complement the good efforts of the federal government direction.
He said the roads are to be constructed with a 40mm asphalt overlay, line drains, kerbs and street lighting, adding that the project designs include the widening of two bridges and the construction of a round about along the roads.
Engr. Dadu further stated that the Terminus Roundabout-Bauchi Road-Farin Gada road network consists of pavement and resurfacing with asphaltic concrete, additional culverts, drains and stone pitching.
He pointed out that the Polo Roundabout to Farin Gada Junction project has a total length of 24.5km and is awarded to a reputable construction firm P.W. Nig. Ltd.
According to him, the second phase of the road construction, which is the Bukuru-Shen, Angwan Doki network including Zawan Road, falls under the phase two.
He said the phase two being flagged off along with the Jos township road has a total length of 25km including a stretch to Yakubu Gowon dam, adding that the Zawan roads will be finished with a 2 coat surface dressing with 40mm asphaltic overlay is to be executed at the contract sum of N831,086,942,49 by P.W. Nig. Ltd.
The state governor, Chief Michael Bot-mang, appealed to the supervisors of the projects, the ministry of works to ensure that the funds committed to the project are effectively utilized and urged the contractors of the Jos township road project Messrs P.W. Nig Ltd to demonstrate a high standard of expertise.
While ensuring that the project is delivered to specifications and completed on schedule, and appeal to members of the public to assist government by ensuring that the facilities provided are properly utilized.
According to him there is need to guard against indiscriminate laying of pipes and defacing of the infrastructure.
He further urged all eligible voters in the state who are yet to register in the on-going voters’ card revalidation exercise to take advantage of the remaining days to get registered to enable them exercise their franchise.
