2007 polls: PDP sets up reconciliation committees

KATSINA state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has set up reconciliation committees to reconcile with aggrieved members of the party.
Some of the aggrieved members include Speaker House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari and Ambassador Magaji Muhammad who were short-changed during the party’s gubernorship primary election.
Also, the committees are expected to meet with some current members of House of Representatives and House of assembly who were forced to step down for other candidates.
Our correspondent learnt that Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal is heading the committee for Katsina zone, Alhaji M. D. Yusuf for Daura zone, while Alhaji Aminu Makera heads the Funtua zone.
Inaugurating the committees, the chairman of PDP in the state, Alhaji Kabiru Daudawa said reconciling with the aggrieved members became necessary to ensure victory of the party in the forthcoming elections.
Alhaji Daudawa admitted that following recent primary election, some members have felt aggrieved hence should be contacted for reconciliation.
He said the reconciliation move is part of effort to ensure unity within the party.
Alhaji Daudawa explained that the party is struggling to clinch all seats to be contested for during 2007 election, pointing out that, “we need to unite the party to achieve our goals.
He expressed confidence that the setting up of the reconciliation committees will assist in convincing the aggrieved members to forgive and contribute for the success of PDP at the polls.
Other committees inaugurated during the occasion included finance committee for presidential and governorship election, and steering committee for mobilization and campaign.
Also inaugurated were the legal committee; women committee and committees on Senate and House of Representatives elections.
