ANPP/AC alliance still intact, says party chieftain
Amid controversy surrounding the ANPP/AC alliance talks, the AC governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom, Mr James Iniama, has declared that the alliance remains intact.
Iniama told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Uyo that the two parties remained committed to the alliance and were working on the terms of the alliance.
``It is not in the nature of political parties to throw open their plans for strategic reasons but all I can assure you is that the two parties would eventually come up with an option that would benefit both of them,'' he said.
``So, as far as I am concerned, their is no conflict of positions in the proposed alliance, as being speculated. Although, people have the right to think the way they do and give interpretations to things,'' he added.
However, Iniama said that an AC government in the state would devote 25 per cent of the state budget to funding the education sector.
The policy, he said, was in line with the target of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on education and provide free medical services to the aged.
He commended the current state government for its development strides and promised to continue with policies and projects that would foster the state's socio-economic transformation.
He also called on INEC, the media and security agencies to ensure hitch-free and credible elections in April.
