Government urged to check
proliferation of motor parks
THE Kano state government has again been called upon to check
the proliferation of illegal motor parks in some parts of the
state capital so as to protect the security and properties of
passengers.
In an interview with AT&T, a patriot in the state, Alhaji Usman
Abdullahi Adamu, lamented the high rate at which illegal motor
parks are daily springing up in the state capital.
Alhaji Adamu noted that if illegal motor parks are not
adequately checked, the activities and operations of approved
and recognized motor parks would not only be seriously impaired,
but the revenue generation of the various local governments
would be seriously affected.
The patriot, who particularly lamented the establishment of a
new motor park at Dan Gwauro on Zaria road in Kumbotso local
government area, stated that this illegal motor park is uncalled
for, recognizing the fact that there is a recognized and viable
motor park at Kwana Dawaki, just some few kilometers from Dan
Gwauro.
Alhaji Adamu also condemned in strong terms, a situation whereby
some individuals or officials of the transport unions in the
state, with the support of some dubious local government
officials, grant permit to these union officials to operate
motor parks without due regards to the laid down rules and
procedures.
According to Alhaji Adamu, passengers who board vehicles in
these illegal motor parks often fall into the hands of men of
the underworld, while their luggages which get lost on transit
are never recovered, unlike in approved motor parks where lost
and found items are returned to the union offices for
identification and collection by their owners.
Alhaji Adamu advised the Kano state government to caution the
various local governments on the need to follow the laid down
rules and regulations in the establishment of motor parks.
AT&T investigations reveal that within the past one year, over
10 illegal motor parks have sprang up in parts of Kano
municipality, the latest being the ones at Kano Guest In,
opposite the Fagge Friday mosque, ‘Yan-Kananzir at ‘Yankura
roundabout and Dan Gwauro on Zaria road.
