NFA tasks new Eagles boss on standing team
NEW Super Eagles gaffer, Hans Hubert Vogts, who is arriving the country on Saturday, has been mandated by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to raise a standing team, composed of home grown players, as part of his brief, hotsportslive.com reports.
“One of the demands we made in London was that the man must raise a National team made up of home-based players. And there is no way he would do that from Europe”, NFA Vice Chairman, Amanze Uchegbulam, who was in the five-man team that interviewed Vogts in London told hotsportslive.com.
“It is not all the time that we would have to rely on our foreign-based players to prosecute our matches. We have an abundance of talents here in Nigeria that need to be developed to world standard and that is part of his brief”, Uchegbulam adds.
Nigeria will not be engaged in any competitive match until March when Vogts is expected to take over the reins from Austin Eguavoen but already, there is a groundswell of opinion that the new Super Eagles gaffer must watch the local league to spot players who could be blooded in the team, just like what Dutchman Clemens Westerhof did during his spell.
“Nigerians should expect the very best from the man. He knows his onions and all he needs now is the chance to prove it”.
