Union commends Compol for job
well-done
THE chaotic situation experienced by passengers and other road
users around Uguwa Uku motor park, has been blamed on the
indiscriminate permission the Taurani local government has
granted various transport companies which choose to operate on
road side instead of the motor parks.
The chairman of Uguwa Uku branch of National Union of Road
Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Bako Umar, who disclosed this
during exclusive interview with ATT&E argued that unless
transport companies like Big Joe, Benue Line Cross Country etc.
are compelled to load inside the park, the chaotic situation
caused by touts employed by these companies will remain.
Alhaji Umar who said he does not understand why despite several
calls on the local government to address the situation, it
remains adamant, stressed that unless the permission granted
these companies are revoked, the crime which daily occur will
remain unsolved.
According to him “no other motor parks in Kano find the volume
of touts as we have here at Uguwa Uku, who are employed by the
so-call transport companies.
The NURTW boss said the union is worried about the amount of
revenue the local government loses through this process he
described as abnormal.
He, therefore, called on passengers to always patronize the
motor parks instead of dumping into any available vehicle by the
road side, an act he said, further endangers the life of the
passengers.
As of the impact of fuel scarcity on his members, Alhaji Umar is
of the opinion that the scarcity affects his members just like
other Nigerians.
He, therefore, called on the elected representatives at all
levels, to protect the interest of the electorate by doing
everything possible to make the product available to the common
man.
The chairman, who said the situation calls for prayers, advised
the ordinary man not to take to the street to demonstrate
against the fuel scarcity because such will not do any body any
good.
About the union’s orientation that the drivers should be more
civil while steering, Alhaji Umar said as Muslims, they always
remind their drivers to be conscious of the security of lives
and property of the passengers by regulating the speed of their
vehicle while driving.
He commends the efforts of the state police commissioner in
restoring effective security service in the state.
According to him, the commitment the police dispatch to the park
to assist in screening of passengers, has helped to reduce
crimes in the motor parks.
