Consultant prescribes training for foreign ministry staff
OFFICERS of the Foreign Affairs Ministry have been urged to upgrade themselves with relevant training to cope with the challenges of diplomacy in the globalised world.
Dr. Jeremy Weate, a U.K.-based management consultant, gave the advice today in Abuja at a three-day training workshop on ``Change Management for Improved Performance''.
Weate said the officers needed to be trained to start ``a journey of transformation'' to be relevant in the global scheme of things.
``You must take pride and care in what you are doing no matter how boring, bureaucratic and mundane it is, to positively affect your organisation,'' he said.
Weate listed areas to be covered in the training to include organisational image and development, living your brand, strategic thinking and implementing change.
Earlier, while welcoming the participants, the AVM Nuhu Umaru (rtd.), the chairman of Adven Consulting Nigeria Ltd., organisers of the workshop, said the staff needed specialised training being a highly professional and technical ministry.
Umaru said the capacity building workshop was designed to enable the ministry's personnel to critically reflect the importance of service delivery and procedures and building an outcome-based culture throughout the service.
He said at the end of the workshop, participants would have acquired skills necessary to initiate, implement or manage the effects of change.
They would be able to explore effective strategies to manage emotional interpersonal issues often generated by change.
``They will also be led to understand themselves and what they offer to the organisation, as well as evaluate their contributions to the effective working of the system,'' he said.
Umaru said the vision of Adven Consulting was to create and sustain practical solutions to challenge management and organisational change.
