Former minister adjudges elections as freest in nation's history
Former minister of state for Industries, Chief Lawrence Nwuruku says the just concluded general election is about the freest since the nation's political history.
Nwuruku made the assertion while addressing newsmen on the conduct of the 2007 general elections Wednesday in Abakaliki.
The former minister who served as Ebonyi state presidential/governorship campaign co-coordinator for Yar'Adua/Goodluck and Elechi/Ogbu organisation said the introduction of electronic voting machine by INEC drastically reduced fraud during the exercise.
Nwuruku, a one time INEC commissioner noted with pride the orderly conduct of the elections in most parts of the country.
"But for some pockets of violence recorded, 2007 general election is about the freest, most orderly and generally adjudged to be the best since the nation's political history", he said.
He, however, used the medium to advice the winners in all the political parties to fashion out policies and programmes that will accelerate the development of the country.
Nwuruku then appealed to those who lost to take the path of honour in handling their grievances while urging the media to be objective in their reportage to avoid overheating the polity.
