Nigeria U-17 World Cup 2009: FG names Waya Kano subseat chairman
THE chairman of National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bala Bawa Ka’Oje yesterday inaugurated a 22-man Local Organising Committee (LOC) memebers for the hosting of the FIFA Under-17 World Youth Championship in 2009.
While inaugurating the committee in Abuja, the NSC chairman, Hon Ka’Oje charged members of the committee to meet up to the expectation.
He said that ‘’the appointment of members was based on merit and we believe will bear the burden of engraving Nigeria’s name in marble with the successfull hosting and possibly winning of the championship.
‘’Hosting the Under-17 championship successfully will add to our rising and enviable hosting profile, which, undoubtedly, will position us for greater challenges of hosting future senior World Cup, the Olympics or even the Commonwealth Games in 2014, which Nigeria is bidding for.’’
The chairman, however, thanked FIFA for believing in the country’s ability to host the world, and in order not to betray the confidence reposed in Nigeria that has necessitated the inauguration of the LOC.
He then used the opportunity to thank President Olusegun Obasanjo for continuing to guide the nation in the quest to improve her image, diversify the economy and create opportunities for Nigerians to excel through the development of sports.
Meanwhile, members of the LOC are Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi as chairman, Mainasara Illo as First Vice Chairman/CEO and Chief Mike Umeh as second vice chairman.
