FG earmarks N284.7m for Waya dam
The federal government has earmarked N284.7 million for the completion of the Waya Dam in an effort to improve electricity and water supply in Bauchi state.
The newly-appointed managing director of the Upper Benue River Basin Authority, Isa Usman made this known at the weekend in Bauchi when he visited Governor Ahmadu Mu'azu.
He said that work would soon resume at the site of the dam, adding that he would go round to see projects under the authority.
He said that in an effort to realise the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a bigger dam would be constructed at Liman Katagun village in addition to the 22 hand pump bore holes to be constructed in the Bauchi south senatorial district.
The managing director said that the bore holes would be constructed in Tafawa Balewa, Toro, Dass, Kirfi and Alkaleri local government areas in addition to the 10 existing ones in Bauchi local government.
He said that the federal government would ensure full security in the country and enhanced effective ecological control.
Usman said that plans were on to hand over all the bore holes to the state and local governments for effective management.
Responding, Mu'azu said that the state government would cooperate and collaborate with the river basin authority to ensure the smooth execution of its programmes in the state.
Mu'azu thanked the managing director for his visit and said his appointment was well deserved.
