Findings reveal , commercial banks suspend business with govt

COMMERCIAL banks in Dutse, Jigawa state have resolved to suspend
indefinitely, any financial transaction with the state
government.
Investigations conducted by Daily Triumph revealed that the
state government is owing several commercial banks in the state
huge amounts of money running into several billions of Naira,
secured at different periods as soft; hard loans and advances.
It was gathered that most of those debts were incurred purposely
for special projects in recent years, but are yet to be settled,
a situation which compeled the banks to suspend any further
financial transaction with the state government in the last one
and half year.

Abdullahi Bayero book launch rakes N15m

MORE than N15 million has been realized as a doof Sokoto, His
Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar extolled the good
virtues of late Emir Abdullahi Bayero, saying that if present
leaders could follow his footsteps the country would be great.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon.
Aminu Bello Masari challenged people to copy from the sterling
qualities of the late emir.
He commended the author of the book for a good work, saying that
such a work is very important to the society, particularly as it
would enable the new generation to learn the great service done
to society by great leaders of his salt.

Nigeria has capacity for 50m ‘phone lines -- Obasanjo

With about six years of successful launching of the long awaited
easiest way of communication -- GSM -- in the country, President
Olusegun Obasanjo last Friday evening said that Nigeria has the
capacity for 50 million telephone lines.
The president who was speaking when a delegation of Celtel
Nigeria Limited paid him a courtesy call at the State House,
further said that still there is room for more companies to come
to Nigeria and invest.
“Our economy is growing; the opportunities are huge. I believe
one third of Nigerians can have telephone lines, and that is
close to 50 million lines”, he stated.

Shekarau honours Unity Cup champs

LAST year’s winners of Unity Cup football competition, Shekarau
Babes FC of Kano state were over the weekend honoured by the
state government.
Speaking at a dinner party organised in honour of the players
and officials of the team, the state governor, Malam Ibrahim
Shekarau said the team has made the state proud.
