...Waya appeals for festival team

THE Special Adviser to Kano state Governor on Sports
Development, Alhaji Kabiru Waya has called on the state
government to consider honouring athletes who did well in the
last National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Alhaji Waya made the call at a dinner party organised in honour
of the players and officials of Shekarau Babes Football Club at
the Government House over the weekend.
According to him, organising a reception for the athletes will
go along way not only in encouraging them but in keeping the
state’s flag flying in future national and international
engagements.
He said that the state athletes had done well in the last
festival, adding that all these achievement could not be
possible without the backing and support of Shekarau-led
administration.
‘’The presence of these kids and their parents here is to
demonstrate to you how we are encouraging these children to play
football, read their books at the same time keep them away from
drugs and other social vices. This, indeed, is in line with the
dictates and spirit of A Daidaita Sahu’’.
The special adviser however, said that his office has
intensified effort towards reviving school sports in the state,
adding that already meeting between the ministry of education
and sports authority is in top gear towards reviving the
competition as the only way to expose the abundant sporting
talents ahead of future national and international competitions.
He commended the state government for its unflinching support
towards the upliftment of sporting activities in the state.
He then praised the state government for assisting six coaches
to undertake courses in coaching, two of whom are assisted for
coaching course in Europe- all this is towards the human
development programme of this administration, he added.
Alhaji Waya then commended the state chairman of Youth Sports
Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna who is
the immediate past chairman of Nassarawa local government area
for bringing a lot of positive changes.
