Yar'adua pledges to work for
PDP's re-election
The PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Umar Yar'adua, yesterday
pledged to do work for the realisation of the party's dream to
get re-elected into power this year.
``We are going to work hard to realise the PDP’s dream for
Nigeria in the comity of nations.
“We are sincere and honest, we care for the people and we will
take Nigeria to greater heights,'' he said at the flag-off of
the party's presidential campaign in Lagos.
Yar'adua, who spoke after receiving the party's flag from PDP
national chairman Ahmadu Ali, described himself and his running
mate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, as good and loyal members of the PDP
who would stick to the party's manifesto.
He pledged to achieve the ``Vision 2020'' task of the federal
government, stressing that the last seven years of the President
Olusegun Obasanjo's administration had recorded tremendous
achievements for the nation.
The presidential candidate assured the citizens of his
determination in positioning the country for greatness, which he
said, Obasanjo had assiduously worked for.
He also promised to sustain the legacy of the current federal
government.
``I beg everybody who is a PDP member that Nigeria today has a
political leader who has put in enough time to turn the country
from under-development into a developed nation,'' he said.
Yar'adua described the PDP as a national party that was
determined to transform the country into a modern economy and
aimed at making the country top rank among the world's first 20
countries by 2020.
He also urged the citizens, particularly Lagosians, not make the
mistake of allowing any other party to win the April elections.
``We need to build on the achievements of President Obasanjo by
sustaining his aspirations and hopes for Nigeria,'' he said.
Also speaking, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP vice-presidential
candidate, urged the PDP faithful to work for the party's
victory at the April polls.
