Bugaje promises to involve communities in projects implementation
The Action Congress (AC) gubernatorial candidate in Katsina State, Alhaji Usman Bugaje, has promised to spend public funds in a democratic manner by involving the direct beneficiaries of any project.
Bugaje, who made the pledge during the weekend at a news conference in Katsina, expressed dismay at the mismanagement of public funds, particularly at the local council level.
If voted into office this year, he promised to consult widely with local council officials and other stakeholders to evolve a workable system for the development of the rural areas of the state.
The candidate said that if the local councils could get an average of N100 million monthly from the federation account, they were expected to achieve a considerable level of development in their areas.
He noted, however, that the managers of such resources were only concerned about enriching themselves instead of working for the people they represented.
Bugaje, who is the Chairman, House of Representatives' Committee on Foreign Affairs, said under his administration, each local community would always be involved in deciding the type of project it wanted.
The community would also supervise the execution of the project based on priority.
The candidate said his administration would give priority to education, human resources development, job creation, provision of water and health care, as well as industrial growth.
He, therefore, called on the people of the state to support his candidature so that they could have a more meaningful life in the next dispensation.
