Vandalism of power transformers
worries Bauchi govt
Worried by the spate of vandalism of power transformers, the
Bauchi state government has directed the 20 local council areas
to set up vigilant groups to protect the facilities.
A statement issued at the weekend by the Information
Commissioner, Ibrahim Babale stated that the measure became
necessary in view of the escalating vandalism of public
utilities.
``Local council chairman, district heads and other communities
in the state are directed to be vigilant and guard such
facilities from vandalism,'' Babale stated.
Babale said that the state government had uncovered plans by
some disgruntled elements to vandalise power transformers and
bore hole panels in order to cause chaos and confusion in the
state.
``It is a grand design hatched by the opponents of the
government, who resorted to vandalism black mail and the
character assignation,'' said Babale.
He noted that people in the state should complement government
efforts in providing basic amenities by protecting the
facilities.
Babale further called on the people to live in peace and harmony
and desist from any act capable of breaching the peace in the
state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Mu'azu
administration had spent more than two billion naira on
electrification project in more than 3,500 communities.
The state also spent about N700 million on the drilling of 2,000
bore holes in the more than 3,000 villages in the last seven
years.
