Bauchi worries over vandalisation

BAUCHI state government has expressed dismay over alleged attempt by some undesirable elements employing devised evil ways of vandalizing public property, particularly electric power transformers and boreholes panels, which will create a negative image to the state government that intends to use its achievement over the years as a yard stick for re-election in April.
The commissioner of information, Barrister Ibrahim Babale made this known in a press release made available to journalists in Bauchi, describing government’s efforts to provide excellent services to the people to justify the eight years mandate it enjoys.
He alleged that there is a calculated plan to sabotage its effort in transforming the state to a model one at least in the north-east region before the end of its tenure in May, 2007.
The mischievous plan, according to the government press release, is being systematically unleashed by those it called myopic and unprogressive elements, adding that the method adopted by the unscrupulous persons, is part of a grand design employed by opponents of the Mu’azu administration who desire power at all cost without specific agenda of action to benefit.
Barrister Babale said the youths are being used to cause confusion and lawlessness in the state by destroying the existing dividends of democracy executed to the door steps of the people by the good government of Bauchi state, noting that the government has already alerted the people, council chairmen, district and village heads as well as other opinion and community leaders to guard and protect the provided facilities located in their areas, adding that security agents and other leaders, have been directed to arrest any person of group of persons caught in the destruction of public property for possible prosecution.
In a related development, Bauhi state All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP legal adviser, Barrister Mustapha Ahmad, has pointed accusing fingers at the state governor Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, of making several attempts to interfere with courts judgments that are not in the favour of government.
He made the accusation in a press conference at the NUJ Press Centre along Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi.
Barrister Ahmad, who is also the ANPP candidate for Bauchi local government federal constituency in the House of Representatives, alleged that, on several occasions, governor Mu’azu, had visited the chambers of judges.
Barrister Ahmad said, the situation in Bauchi state is becoming unbearable as the governor has muzzled life out of the two arms of the government (judiciary and of course legislature), to have an enabling environment for full-blown dictatorship in a democracy that should be resisted by the people with several threats and intimidation on opposition parties.
