ICA suspends Eze Igbo
By UMORU IBRAHIM

THE crisis among the Ibo community in Kano has further depended last weekend when leaders of Ibo Community Association (ICA) led by Dr. Bonifa Ibekwe suspended Eze Igbo of Kano, Dr. O.T. Nnadi who is the highest Ibo traditional ruler in Kano.
In a press conference addressed by Chief Ibekwe the ICA leaders said is the Eze was suspended because he is no longer physically and mentally fit to preside over the affairs of Ibo community in Kano, having failed to meet the constitutional requirements of Ibo in Kano.
Justifying the position of ICA on Eze, the president said that going by article 17 of ICA constitution, the Eze is no longer qualified to remain in the office till now because according to him, he did not meet constitutional requirements of this article.
He said article 16 (1) says that: ‘’The Eze should be a member of ICA for him to be installed called and recognized as Eze Igbo of Kano, while article 17 (2) says ‘’Eze must not only be a financial member of ICA but must either live in Sabon Gari or operate a palace in the place,’’ adding that the suspended Eze did not meet these provisions.
The ICA leaders who condemned the Eze for the press conference, he addressed on January 23, in relations to the Ibo crisis, argued that the Eze had directed his performance of constitutional functions by flouting other constitutional provisions.
He added that article 22 (1) of the constitution of ICA permits the withdrawal of recognition of his Royal Highness in extreme cares which include his failure to take disciplinary action which gravely understand and secutle the committee and his institution in this case.
Arguing further, he said article 22 (1) states that: ‘’ICA may sanction an Eze Igbo if he notoriously derelict the performance of his constitution functions flouts the provision of the constitutional of ICA, or the decision resolution of the association.
Other reasons legitimizing the sanctioning of Eze, he said, include allegation of grass misconduct proved against the Eze, and if the Eze is old, physically or mentally unfit which makes him incapable of carrying out his duties as the Eze Igbo Kano.
According ICA president, it is clear that the above mentioned provision of Article 22 (1) a+d are over due for implementation against the incumbent Eze as his physical health clearly speaks for itself.
The embattle ICA chairman who claimed to be in full control of Ibo community in Kano challenged the special adviser to the governor Ibrahim Shekarau to broke his influence in the forthcoming general election.
In another development, Fagge local government branch has disassociates the members from the activities of Hon. Prince Azuka, special adviser to the governor on community relations.
A petition to the governor signed by the chairman of the party in the local government, Alhaji Sharu Kabiru, indicated the Hon. Azuka works for other parties instead of ANPP in the local government.
