I ‘ll never be rubber stamp
senator,says Kabiru Gaya
By ALIYU YUSUF
“I will never be a rubber stamp senator or a political
contractor, if elected in 2007 as an All Nigeria Peoples’ Party
(ANPP)’s senatorial candidate for Kano South,” Arc Kabiru
Ibrahim Gaya has asserted.
He made the assertion in an exclusive interview with Daily
Triumph’s political desk at Gaya town, Sunday.
Arc Gaya, who was a one-time civilian governor of Kano state,
stated that, as professional, he has an image to maintain,
therefore his being in the senate would surely be fruitful to
both Kano north and the country at large.
He lamented that, those who have succumbed to be rubber stamp or
political contractors, are the ones that do not have any
professional back-ground and are not capable enough to hold
public offices.
“As a former governor of Kano state, who served under a military
administration, I believe that, if I’m elected senator, I will
be an active senator, who will not only help the north but
Nigeria as a whole,” he maintained.
He then declared his resolve to ensure that, whatever concerns
the north would be thoroughly deliberated on, so as to correct
all existing imbalances within.
Arc. Gaya added that, as somebody who has a record to defend, he
would do everything possible not to destroy this record for the
number of years to be spent in the senate.
On why he is vying for the seat, the former governor explained
that, he decided to contest for the post to contribute his quota
towards the development of his constituency.
He added that, he had wanted to contest for the state
governorship, but considering the credible performance of
Governor Shekarau, “I decided to run for the senate, so as to
render my support to him, General Buhari and also not to create
problem for the party”.
The senatorial candidate while calling on the people of his
constituency to cast their votes to him,. General Buhari and
Governor Shekarau in the 2007 elections, noted that, his
candidature would also encourage other former governors to vie
for the senatorial seats in their respective states, so as to
use their wealth of experiences for the progress of the
country.”
