Voter registration: INEC
extends deadline, gives reasons
INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and
Publicity, Alhaji Muhammad Jumare, yesterday said that voter
registration exercise was extended because of noticeable long
queues at most centres.
In a telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
correspondent, Jumare said the commission as a responsible
organisation had to intervene so as not to disenfranchise many
Nigerians.

THE United Kingdom is watching with great interest Nigeria’s
first transition from one civilian administration to another
between April 14 and 21, 2007.
According to a news release signed by Graemie Bunntyne, of Press
and Public Affairs Unit of the British High Commission in
Nigeria, the statement was made by Sir Richard Gozney, the
British High Commissioner.

Ethiopian
varsity honours Obasanjo
President Olusegun Obasanjo was yesterday awarded an
honorary doctorate degree of laws by Ethiopia’s University of
Addis Ababa (UAA) in recognition of his contributions to the
survival and development of the African continent.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obasanjo was
honoured degree along with the Italian Prime Minister Romano
Prodi.
Conferring the honorary degree, UAA president, Prof. Andrias
Eshete said Obasanjos’s enormous contributions to Africa “offer
a sterling example to other leaders of the continent.
