Katsina emir inaugurates Islamic
varsity’s board of trustees
A-22 member Board of Trustees for Katsina Islamic University has
been inaugurated.
Inaugurating the board, Emir of Katsina, Alhaji, (Dr.) Muhammadu
Kabir Usman called on the Muslim Ummah particularly in the state
and local governments to assist toward the sustenance of the
university.
Alhaji Usman expressed happiness for the establishment of the
only Muslim community-owned university in Nigeria as against 19
belonging to Christian non-governmental organizations.
He called on members of the board to consider their assignment
as a sacrifice to God and assist the university.
In his speech, the acting chairman of Katsina Islamic
Foundation, Qadi Ibrahim Mai’unguwa said the establishment of
the university was conceived in 1987 immediately after the
commissioning ceremony of the Islamic university in Niger
Republic.
He said the objective of setting up the university is to promote
research, Islamic values and peaceful co-existence among Muslims
and non-Muslims.
The acting chairman explained that the board of trustees will be
given required support and conducive atmosphere to perform its
function in accordance with the university law.
He thanked them for accepting to serve in the board, saying
their appointment is to relive the Islamic foundation of the
task of supervising the university.
Responding, the Emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Najib Hussaini Adamu who
spoke on behalf of the members described their appointment as a
challenge.
Alhaji Adamu expressed the hope that with the calibre of people
in the board of trustees, they will bring a lot of improvement
to the university and do everything possible to ensure its
sustenance.
