KNSG hails SMEDAN over conference
hosting right
KANO state government has commended the Director-General, Small
and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN)
for choosing Kano as venue for public presentation of the
regional conference on National Policy on micro, small and
medium enterprises.
The commendation was made by the state governor, Malam Ibrahim
Shekarau, who was represented by the commissioner for commerce,
industry and cooperatives, Alhaji Ahmad Ibrahim Yakasai during
the opening ceremony of the public presentation, held at Durbar
Hotel, Kano.
Malam Shekarau disclosed that new industrial estates have been
proposed in various parts of the state to provide enabling
environment for the establishment of new industries.
The governor further disclosed that government is ready to
collaborate with SMEDAN to ensure that government’s objectives
in the area of wealth and poverty reduction are achieved.
He pointed out that since the assumption of the present
administration, it has embarked on a number of programmes aimed
at increasing and sustaining the growth of entrepreneurship,
adding that the programmes include cottage industries, loan
scheme, artisan loan scheme, enterprise support etc.
He then urged them to task themselves so as to give the nation a
workable policy document that will enthrone a vibrant SME’s
sub-sector and wished them a successful deliberation.
Earlier, the Director General, Small and Medium Enterprise
Development Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Modupe Adelaja had commended
the governor of Kano state for accepting to host the
presentation in Kano.
Mrs. Adelaja stated that the choice of Kano is not only
appropriate, given its commercial antecedents, strategic and
significant but the most populous state in Nigeria.
The director-general further stated that, the agency had in
2005, commissioned a high level study of Kano leather cluster
with the aim of upgrading its status.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the President on
Manufactoring and Private Sector, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmad,
expressed satisfaction with she Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
signed between SMEDAN and Kano state government.
The MoU was later signed by the commissioner of commerce,
industry and cooperatives on behalf of she state government and
on the other hand by the director general, SMEDAN on behalf of
her agency.
