Presidency: Gaya wants
Atiku’s backing for Buhari
By ALIYU YUSUF
VICE President Atiku Abubakar has been called upon to support
and assist the candidature of General Muhammadu Buhari in his
presidential bid in the interest and progress of the country.
Former civilian governor of Kano state, Arc. Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya
told Daily Triumph that in spite of party differences, General
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida had been assisting General Buhari in
his political struggle as such there is a need for vice
president Abubakar to do same for the betterment of the North
and the country in general.
“Let the three of them put their heads together and support
Buhari so that the Presidency will come to us for better,“ he
explained.
Gaya further observed that if Vice President Atiku should render
that support to General Buhari, the accord between All Nigeria
Peoples Party (ANPP) and Action Congress (AC) would work well.
Reacting to the face-off between President Olusegun Obasanjo and
Atiku Abubakar, the former governor described the scenario as a
pointer to political doom for the country, noting that if the
president could denigrade himself to fighting his vice or the
vice dis-respecting him then this would be a set back to
democracy in the country.
Arc Gaya who is also aspiring for a senatorial seat for the
Kano-South foresees PDP as a party failing to survive again,
giving the optimum that the ANPP will by the Grace of God take
over next administration for the betterment of the country in
2007.
On the forthcoming general election which is past approaching,
he called on the people in the state to continue to pray for the
sustainability of democracy and the enhancement of the
governance by electing General Buhari as their president.
He further called on all eligible voters to protect their votes
by using them wisely to vote for credible candidates at all
levels, recalling that, that was what they did in 2003,
stressing that if 10-15 states can emulate what Kano did in 2003
no doubt, ANPP would win the 2007 election in the country.
